36' Custom Valance In A Beautiful Low Country Home

Savannah Window Fashions recently had the opportunity to support the talented Corinne Reeves with a 36’ custom valance in this beautiful low country home. The stunning view from these windows and beautiful french doors cannot be overstated, and the perfect window treatments were needed to frame the view and provide privacy. The project also presented unique challenges, so our team collaborated with the designer and homeowner to come up with the best solution.

Where there was an existing valance, the designer chose to replace and update with a new custom valance layered over operable sheers and stationary drapery panels. It made more sense to reuse the mounting boards from the old valance. Removing and replacing them would have meant holes in the wall that would need to be patched and painted, then creating new holes with a newly mounted board. However, the tops of the old boards were sun-damaged.

Removing, transporting, repairing, and remounting 36’ in boards would have resulted in significant cost and lead time increases. We brought our installer in for a site check - something we often do with complicated projects, so we can ensure a smooth installation. The solution we came up with was to fabricate dust covers for the boards, so that the sun damage was not visible. We added a strip of velcro to the top to keep the valance in place. This custom solution was much less disruptive for our client and made for a faster installation experience.

Custom valances are a versatile way to dress a window, and are perfect for layering window treatments. This valance stretched around two corners and the entire length of the wall-to-wall floor-to-ceiling windows. The stationary drapery panels were fabricated in the same fabric as the valance, and the operable sheer panels provide privacy when desired.

The only thing better than these beautiful window treatments is the magnificent view.
